The Bus Maintenance & Operations Facility was designed to optimize the agency’s bus transit service throughout the Central Los Angeles region. The new sustainable facility accommodates a fleet of 200 CNG (compressed natural gas) buses that provide effective and environmentally responsible public transportation for one of the largest, most populous counties in the country.
McCarthy served as the general contractor and self-performed the structural and architectural concrete work on the facility. The project entailed construction of a three-level, cast-in-place concrete parking structure housing the Metro buses with an attached two-level, 21,000-square-foot transportation building on the structure’s northwest corner.
McCarthy also tied into an existing two-level maintenance building at the east side of the parking structure. Designed to meet LEED Gold certification standards, sustainable construction methods were used throughout construction such as maintaining proper indoor air quality; utilizing local labor and materials and recycling construction waste.
