Klyde Warren Park
Dallas, TX
Klyde Warren Park is a 5.2 acre urban park that was built on a newly constructed bridge deck. The Park spans the full width of Woodall Rodgers Freeway and creates a pedestrian park and greenscape bridging Downtown and Uptown Dallas. The park’s design includes a children’s garden playground, great lawn, performance pavilion, park restaurant and dog park. Running through the middle of the Park is the promenade that provides access through the park to various amenities, including an outdoor reading room, table game areas and a small putting green. There are various landscape gardens and interactive fountains and water features throughout the park as well.
A major construction challenge was the fact that the park is built on a bridge deck over a heavily trafficked freeway. Movement and vibration of the bridge deck created constant layout and elevation issues that had to be carefully monitored.
The design of the Park and its amenities over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway fulfills the need for a connection and a common ground in this area of Dallas. It allows a busy Woodall Rodgers Freeway to still carry traffic below while using the space above to be used recreationally.
