This 31,000-square-foot design-build emergency operations center for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station was built on a 14.47-acre parcel of land. The center houses an emergency operations facility currently located at the plant and a joint information center currently located at the Papago Military Reservation in Phoenix.
In the event of an emergency at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, plant officials and government leaders will utilize the center to respond and share information with the public. The project also included a 222-seat auditorium where plant officials and government leaders can brief the media and deliver messages to affected residents.
It was my pleasure to work with McCarthy on the Palo Verde EOF project. The schedule was very tight and despite several owner-requested changes they were able to achieve substantial completion before the required date. This was achieved through constant communication with the owner, the town of Buckeye, and the design team. McCarthy was proactive in determining issues that would hinder the completion schedule and sought to have them resolved before they impacted the project. A job well done.
