Houston Methodist Cypress Campus - Scope of Work
McCarthy’s work scope includes the demolition of 11 existing buildings, totaling 600,000 square feet, formerly occupied by Sysco Corp. The new hospital will consist of a 570,700-square-foot, seven-story building, while the two medical office buildings will be six stories each. The first, totaling over 162,900 square feet, will contain a cancer center with linear accelerator and a bridge connector to the new hospital tower. The second, totaling 160,200 square feet, will include a sports and orthopedic rehabilitation clinic. McCarthy is also renovating an existing 29,000-square-foot central utility plant.
Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital Group Calls On McCarthy's Experience
“McCarthy has extensive healthcare construction experience, and we’re honored to work with Houston Methodist as they work to bring additional care to meet the needs of Houston’s growing population,” said Preston Hodges, Senior Vice President, Houston Business Unit Leader. “Due to the size of this project and complexity of coordinating demolition, renovation, and new construction, our team has a unique opportunity to not only showcase our skills but contribute to Houston Methodist’s center of innovation.”
All structures, including the hospital and both medical office buildings, are pan-deck concrete structures, with envelopes consisting of masonry and glazing. While the construction process is using standard materials, challenges include multiple supply chain issues and an aggressive schedule for completion. Due to the aggressive schedule and large scale of the project, McCarthy is working to involve numerous trade partners on the construction effort who will work simultaneously.
McCarthy was selected as the general contractor, with Page as the project architect. Walter P. Moore is the project structural and civil engineer, SSR will handle mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, OJB is the landscape architect, and Vizient is overseeing medical equipment planning.
With an extensive portfolio of multi-phase healthcare and research facility projects, McCarthy is ideally suited to take on healthcare and research projects of any size or complexity. Some of McCarthy’s other healthcare projects include Texas Children’s Hospital – Austin, Parkland Moody Center for Breast Health in Dallas, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler expansion, CHRISTUS Spohn in Corpus Christi, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Alkek Hospital Expansion and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center The Pavilion expansion.
