McCarthy to Join More than 1,000 Contractors During the Inaugural Construction Inclusion Week: Oct. 18-22, 2021

The inaugural Construction Inclusion Week kicks off on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. Organized by Time for Change, a construction industry collaboration dedicated to identifying ways to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the construction industry, Construction Inclusion Week provides five days of content and resources designed to promote inclusion and enable thoughtful conversations regarding diversity within the construction industry. McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is a founding member of Time for Change and helping to lead the way on this industry-wide effort.

Prioritizing Diversity in the Workplace
More than 1,100 construction industry firms throughout North and Central America have signed up to participate in Construction Inclusion Week, receiving access to materials and resources that help foster conversations and bring awareness to diversity, equity and inclusion. Firms of all sizes, including national builders such as McCarthy and local small businesses, have registered to take part. Specialty contractors, suppliers and affiliated industry organizations, including owner entities, have also signed up. More than 70 percent of registered companies are non-MWBE/SBE/LGBTQ+ certified firms interested in enhancing and improving inclusion efforts.
Daily themes include Leadership Commitment and Accountability, Unconscious Bias, Supplier Diversity, Jobsite Culture and Community Engagement. McCarthy will be hosting a variety of activities throughout the week on jobsites and in offices aligning with these themes, including live webinars, small group conversations, online educational content, supplier open house events and community outreach activities.

Inclusion Week: Building a More Diverse Construction Industry
In 2020, a group of general contractors: McCarthy, Gilbane Building Company, DPR Construction, Turner Construction Company, Mortenson, and Clark Construction Group created a consortium titled Time for Change with a single purpose: identify ways to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in construction. Through this effort, Construction Inclusion Week was born. With affiliated partners Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Associated General Contractors (AGC), and Culture of Care, Construction Inclusion Week will harness the collective power of the construction industry to build awareness regarding the need to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry.
