Hangar One, a historic landmark located in the Bay Area, was originally constructed over 90 years ago by the US Navy at the Moffet Federal Airfield. This impressive structure spans 1,133 feet in length, 308 feet in width, and rises to a height of 198 feet. In 2020, McCarthy, in collaboration with our Design Build partners HDR and KPFF, was commissioned to revitalize this iconic building.
The project involves comprehensive efforts to transform Hangar One into an advanced R&D facility, while preserving its historic essence. Key renovations include abatement, structural upgrades, reskinning, and interior improvements. The building encompasses approximately 350,000 square feet, divided between the Hangar Deck and two levels of "Shed" space on the east and west sides.
Enhancements will accommodate future research and development tenants, featuring upgraded interiors in four lobbies and restroom cores. The project will also integrate core MEP/FP infrastructure throughout the hangar, restore operable doors, and renovate hangar floors. Additionally, site work and parking enhancements will align with the existing campus master plan, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
