McCarthy Named One of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America
This national awards program honors people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population.
ST. LOUIS – McCarthy Holdings, Inc. (McCarthy) is proud to once again be included in an organization named one of the 2024 Healthiest 100™ Workplaces in America. The Heathiest 100 honors the “best of the best” in corporate health and wellness. McCarthy, comprised of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Castle Contracting LLC, is the oldest privately held national construction company in America and consistently recognized as a healthiest employer and great place to work. With 160 years spent collaborating with partners to solve complex building challenges on behalf of its clients, McCarthy is committed to providing great experiences for everyone.
“This recognition highlights our dedication to building a culture that prioritizes the well-being of our employees,” said Kristyn Cantu, Director of McCarthy’s Total Rewards program. “From physical health to mental wellness and financial security, we strive to provide comprehensive resources that truly make a difference in our employees’ lives.”
The Healthiest Workplaces Award Program
The Heathiest Workplaces award program recognizes people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population. Companies were recognized because of their commitment to workplace wellness and their exceptional health and benefits offerings.
“We saw some of the highest scores in program history this year,” said Haley Potoczek, program manager at Springbuk. “I believe this emphasizes the importance that employers play on employee health, engagement, and overall happiness. Wellness is about more than just physical activity. Employers must continue to evolve to create a positive work environment.”
Each company included on the Healthiest 100 list participated in the local Healthiest Employers® application process. The categories, scoring, and benchmarking were formed with the help of a national, non-biased group of representatives from the academic, medical, wellness and business communities.
The six categories are as follows:
- Culture and Leadership Commitment
- Foundational Components
- Strategic Planning
- Communications and Marketing
- Programming and Interventions
- Reporting and Analytics
To qualify for the national recognition, applicants are also scored in an additional section called “the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America.” These top honorees stand apart in their organizational wellness vision, workplace culture & employee engagement, focus learning and continuous improvement, deep expertise in the area, strategic use of metrics to adjust and improve, and innovative use of technology.
McCarthy’s Health and Wellness Offerings
McCarthy prioritizes employee well-being through a holistic health and wellness program supported by flexible benefits and a network of Wellness Champions. The benefits package includes no-cost preventative medications, mental health resources through Lyra, financial coaching via My Secure Advantage, and family-building support from Maven. Wellness Champions promote participation nationwide, organizing over 30 biometric screening events annually and company-wide fitness challenges. These efforts have led to measurable health improvements, including lower blood pressure and better cholesterol management. Together, these initiatives create a culture where employees are empowered and supported to take ownership of their health.
In addition to physical health, McCarthy integrates mental health into its overall focus on safety, recognizing the connection between physical and mental well-being. Through its partnership with Lyra, 98% of employees and their families are matched with a provider in an average of two days, ensuring swift access to care. Mental health is emphasized across the company, with leaders addressing the topic in communications, Lyra-led workshops throughout the year, including Construction Safety Week, and mental health champions driving awareness. This approach has increased program utilization, reduced stigma, and encouraged open conversations about mental health. Employees are also becoming certified in mental health first aid, further strengthening the culture of wellness.
“At McCarthy, we know that the success of our company starts with the health and happiness of our employees,” added Cantu. “By investing in their well-being, we’re not only enhancing their quality of life but also strengthening the foundation of our organization.”
