McCarthy was the CM-at-Risk for this new Surface Water Facility that included a new surface water treatment plant with an initial treatment capacity of 30 MGD, and infrastructure for future expansion to 120 MGD. Starting at an early schematic level, McCarthy worked collaboratively with SJRA and three design firms throughout preconstruction to deliver a GMP right on budget.
The treatment plant processes included pretreatment, sedimentation, ozonation, low-pressure membrane filtration, filter backwash equalization and clarification, sludge tanks, thickeners and belt presses. The raw water intake pump station was constructed on Lake Conroe for ultimate capacity of 120 MGD and includes piping and pump foundations for seven intake pumps. The high service finished water pump station was constructed includes piping and pump foundations for twelve vertical turbine pumps. The initial installed pumping capacity will serve the 30 MGD water treatment plant capacity and includes a pump building, six installed pumps, primary electrical service, emergency power facilities, two 5-million-gallon ground storage tanks and associated yard piping.
McCarthy self-performed 47% of the project, including all mass concrete pours, the intake pump station structure and access bridge trestle on Lake Conroe, all large diameter yard piping, mechanical process piping, valves & fitting, and equipment setting including vertical turbine and submersible pumps.
