A Firm Foundation: Local Builder’s Market Outperforms Nation
Midlands Business Journal
Kris Montgomery, Nebraska market leader with McCarthy Building Companies, said Omaha and surrounding markets have traditionally been slower to be impacted by macroeconomic forces, which explains the brisk pace of local construction throughout the metro and beyond.
“The Midlands area continues to see a large volume of commercial construction projects and as a result, contractors and subcontractors continue to be in high demand,” he said.
“Across the region, several large projects are in various stages of design and construction, including complex infrastructure projects like the $350 million City of Omaha Papillion Creek Wastewater Treatment improvement project that was recently awarded to our McCarthy team.”
Eventually, the same chickens come home to roost, however proportionally, in the case of labor issues. Montgomery said the continued loss of retiring craftspeople has complicated the labor picture and spurred the industry to devote time and creativity to attracting, equipping, and retaining new workers.
