Winn Army Hospital
This 65,000-square-foot, certified LEED Silver project adds significant upgrades to the existing Winn Army Hospital. The new addition includes space for a physical and occupational therapy clinic, an orthopedics and podiatry clinic, a behavioral health clinic, and a social work clinic. The project also includes a 1,000-square foot renovation to connect the new addition to the existing hospital, and a central utility expansion and upgrade to support both the current clinic expansion and the future hospital expansion.
Extensive site utility and infrastructure relocation was required on this project, including primary power and communication loops, demolition of existing buildings, relocation of mobile MRI facilities and additional infrastructure to support temporary clinic space. The hospital is designed to the latest antiterrorism/force protection requirements including progressive collapse and blast protection requirements.
This project was constructed on an active campus, presenting several challenges. Logistically, the project was wedged between ongoing hospital operations and the new facility under construction, leaving little room to maneuver and limited construction laydown. Because of the challenges inherent in constructing on a tight, active site, such as infection control, communication and planning was essential.
