    Based in Kansas City, Barry Sutherland is primarily responsible for new business development, client services and marketing with a focus on fostering relationships with Healthcare, Education, and Science & Technology clients in the region. He began his career with McCarthy managing marketing for McCarthy's Science & Technology business development team for three years, before transitioning to lead business development efforts in Kansas City.

    A LEED Accredited Professional, Barry is a strong advocate for sustainability efforts at McCarthy and on the firm’s building projects. He is an active member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, having served as president of the St. Louis chapter, chair of the national Build Business conference, and a variety of roles with the Kansas City chapter, including currently serving as the Sponsorship Chair. In addition, he serves on the Olathe Chamber’s Business-to-Government Committee, the Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineer’s Social Committee, and The University of Kansas Hospital’s Young Professional’s Alliance. He and his wife live with their family in Olathe, Kansas.

    With more than 20 years of industry experience in marketing, new business development and client relationship management, Crystal Carter is a business development team member for McCarthy in the Southeast. With a focus on the commercial, renewable energy, higher education and healthcare markets, she works closely with current and potential clients and partners to ensure McCarthy is surpassing expectations.

    Crystal actively serves as a member of the board of directors for the City of Alpharetta Development Authority, a member of the executive leadership committee for the Georgia Chapter of Construction Owners Association of America, is a past president of the South Atlantic Chapter of Construction Management Association of America, and a prior board member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, Atlanta.

    Michael Benford is responsible for leading initiatives for the Commercial Business Unit and Parking Structures group in Southern California with a focus on numerous markets including entertainment, transportation, private development and science & technology. Michael has more than five years of experience in the construction industry, in roles ranging from project engineer to business development. In addition to his current responsibilities at McCarthy, he serves as a board member for the Irvine Chamber of Commerce and is an active member of the Society of Marketing Professional Services and Design-Build Institute of America.

    Paul King is responsible for maintaining client relationships, developing the strategy for project pursuits, building strong project pursuit teams, and seeking out new business opportunities in the San Diego region. He brings nearly 13 years of experience in the construction industry.

    In addition to his responsibilities with McCarthy, Paul is a former board member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services Orange County and served as a committee member for Design-Build Institute of America Western Region. He also leads McCarthy’s Heart Hats philanthropic focus in San Diego.

Aaron joined McCarthy in 1989 where he worked in the operations department for the company's Southern California and Sacramento offices, serving clients in the healthcare, higher education, K-14, parking structure and hospitality, markets.

    As a vice president in McCarthy’s Northern Pacific Division, Frances Choun develops and maintains business relationships with clients throughout the region. Her strong leadership has greatly contributed to the division’s overall growth, and after almost two decades with McCarthy, has helped propel us forward as one of the largest commercial contracting firms in California.

    Frances launched her career in architecture, where she developed an interest in the construction side of the business. Her exposure to the construction industry eventually led to her career transition. As an industry expert, she is regularly called upon by local, trade and national media to address new and projected trend, and is considered a pioneer in advancing women in the construction field. She was recently honored as a “Forever Influential Woman of Influence in Business” by the San Francisco Business Times.

    Having served in many leadership capacities for professional industry groups, Frances is the past president of the Commercial Real Estate Women’s (CREW) San Francisco Chapter, former president of the board for the San Francisco Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center, and recent board member of the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) San Francisco Chapter. She is currently on the construction management advisory board for the City College of San Francisco.

    Jim leads the business development efforts for the Advanced Technology & Manufacturing business unit of McCarthy.

    Jim has 32 years of experience in the construction industry working on projects across the nation. He has worked on major building projects for a variety of Fortune 500 companies and nationally-recognized institutions including Cornell University, US Department of Agriculture, Washington University in St. Louis, Mercy Hospital System, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, Pfizer and Monsanto. He has served as an architectural project manager, construction project manager, chief estimator and preconstruction director for both small and mega-building contractors.

    Jim serves on the St. Louis County Business Expansion and Retention Committee and is a member of the Design-Build Institute of America, Construction Management Association of America, Associated General Contractors and is a voting member for the Global Lab of the Year Award.  

    Jim has authored or co-authored numerous technical journal articles related to laboratories and other technical facilities as well as presented at professional conferences.
